Spring is on the way!
| 5th March 2022The Spring equinox on 20th March welcomes the start of a new season. As the magic of new life begins to emerge, we have good reason to celebrate; it’s the time of fertility and new growth!
With renewed energy we look forward to the longer days and warmer weather; the bees are encouraged from their hives, and now is the time to start sowing seeds and planting out cuttings. These signs from nature gift us with a promise that change is on the way.
We celebrate Ostara on the Spring equinox because we live on this beautiful planet. Who could not feel a joyful connection with nature on a sunny Spring morning? Whilst officially Ostara is a pagan festival, over time, some of the traditions and symbolism associated with Ostara have been adopted by the Christian faith and included in to their celebrations of Easter. Leaving religion and politics aside, the Spring equinox can be enjoyed by anyone who contemplates the “awe and wonder” of the natural world.
The first day of Spring represents things in equal balance; day and night, light and dark, good and evil, feminine and masculine, the yin and the yan. In this reflection we may feel enlightened and empowered. We can use this time for personal growth and development; setting ourselves goals and clearing out the old. There may be Spring rituals you do already like setting seeds or welcoming the feeling of the sun on your face. Become conscious and aware of these special moments; give thanks for the day, and spare a moment to envision a world in balanced harmony. Whether you celebrate Ostara or Easter, let’s all light a candle on the Spring equinox and send blessings of harmony to the world and to all those that find themselves in unfairly weighted with troubles and strife at this time.
